Synopsis

Sam dreams of Lawton (Nicholas D'Agosto) are off to Paris for an internship there. Unfortunately before the dream was achieved, the nightmare has come. Sam somehow became involved with the death of hunting and now Sam and his friends must desperately trying to escape the death that seemed to always follow.
Not unexpectedly, Sam got the 'vision' just before the occurrence of a major accident. Convinced that dream would come true, Sam tries to save Peter (Miles Fisher), Candice (Ellen Wroe), Olivia (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), Molly Harper (Emma Bell), Isaac (PJ Byrne), Nathan (Arlen Escarpeta), and Dennis Lapman(David Koechner).
They all survived the deadly accident but apparently they have not been able to breathe because of the death had other plans. One by one they began to fall. Eight of them have to die at the time and sooner or later they will die, as already outlined. Can they escape from this terrible fate death?

Review

Actually there was no obligation to make a prequel but some how Eric Heisserer (writer) and Steven Quale (director) decided FINAL DESTINATION 5 being the prequel of the series that began in 2000. It may be that already appears saturation and not many options that can be used in addition to making this film prequel. No problem, yet the essence of this film still remains FINAL DESTINATION.

As in the previous four films, existing templates ready for use.The writer just replace the name, location, and how each character dies. It may be that this is the only film had a story line remains the same and still people willing to spend money to watch it. In general, the FINAL DESTINATION series has always managed to outperform the previous film in terms of revenue, except the two that failed.

Do not expect too much from this film because this film does not let too much. Attendance was just curious about what made each character dies. There is no emotional involvement because each character is not given a chance to grow into a whole figure. The story line is also there to assemble the death scenes that have been designed before.

Sinopsis

Impian Sam Lawton (Nicholas D'Agosto) adalah berangkat ke Paris untuk magang di sana. Sayang sebelum impian itu tercapai, mimpi buruk sudah datang. Entah kenapa Sam tiba-tiba terlibat perburuan dengan sang maut dan kini Sam dan kawan-kawannya harus mati-matian mencoba menghindar dari kematian yang seolah selalu mengikuti.

Tak disangka, Sam mendapat 'penglihatan' tepat sebelum terjadinya sebuah kecelakaan besar. Yakin mimpi itu bakal terwujud, Sam mencoba menyelamatkan Peter (Miles Fisher), Candice (Ellen Wroe), Olivia (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), Molly Harper (Emma Bell), Isaac (P.J. Byrne), Nathan (Arlen Escarpeta), dan Dennis Lapman (David Koechner).

Mereka semua berhasil selamat dari kecelakaan maut itu tapi ternyata mereka belum bisa bernafas lega karena sang maut punya rencana lain. Satu per satu mereka mulai berguguran. Mereka berdelapan memang harus mati saat itu dan cepat atau lambat mereka akan mati seperti yang sudah digariskan. Bisakah mereka menghindar dari takdir kematian yang mengerikan ini?

Review

Sebenarnya tak ada kewajiban untuk membuat prekuel namun entah mengapa Eric Heisserer (penulis naskah) dan Steven Quale (sutradara) memutuskan FINAL DESTINATION 5 menjadi prekuel dari serial yang berawal di tahun 2000 ini. Bisa jadi sudah muncul kejenuhan dan tak banyak pilihan yang bisa digunakan selain menjadikan film ini prekuel. Tak masalah, toh secara esensi film ini masih tetap FINAL DESTINATION.

Seperti juga di empat film sebelumnya, sudah ada template yang siap digunakan. Sang penulis naskah tinggal mengganti nama, lokasi, dan cara masing-masing karakter meninggal. Bisa jadi ini adalah satu-satunya film punya alur kisah tetap sama dan tetap saja orang mau mengeluarkan uang untuk menontonnya. Secara umum, serial FINAL DESTINATION selalu berhasil mengungguli film sebelumnya dari sisi pendapatan, kecuali bagian kedua yang gagal.

Jangan berharap terlalu banyak dari film ini karena film ini memang tak mengizinkan terlalu banyak. Penonton cuma dibuat penasaran tentang bagaimana masing-masing karakter meninggal. Tidak ada keterlibatan emosi karena masing-masing karakter memang tak diberi peluang untuk tumbuh menjadi sosok yang utuh. Alur cerita juga hanya ada untuk merangkai adegan-adegan kematian yang sudah dirancang sebelumnya.
